LABoral has organised for this coming Thursday 25th August Animal de compañía [Pet Animal], a workshop and performance featuring the ratopaco collective, an artistic due formed by Elena Rato and Noelia Francisco Martínez. Both calls fall within the framework of the exhibition Cinco años de Ladines [Five Years of Ladines] which, until next 5th September, offers a perspective on works produced at Fundación Arte Ladines [Ladines Art Foundation] and is accompanied by three projects by Asturian artists Fiumfoto, Natalia Pastor & Vicente Pastor and Adolfo Manzano.

The workshop, with free registration, will take place from 4 pm to 6 pm and will introduce the participants to the language and tools of performance in order to create a work in the style of ratopaco, “aiming to enjoy the creative catharsis and give birth to a short piece with its own language”. Disembowelling words, deifying an object, selecting music which sends shivers down your spine are some of the keys used by ratopaco for articulating a performance and carrying out a basic overview on the analysis of the gaze. To achieve this, the work draws from the studio of personal experience, obsessions made into music, the importance of the wardrobe, lighting, the distribution of periods and awareness of the elements put on stage.

Later on, at 8 pm, Noelia Francisco Martínez and Elena Rato will feature in a performance involving their return to the practice of this artistic genre, once again engaging the machinery of a universe in which the woman is the protagonist: “a multiple, fragile, powerful woman, who is stricken with time and imbued with the collective memory, subversive against her, searching for a balance with the norm”. ratopaco plays with the idea of impossibility through linking together dichotomies, appealing to the intellect as well as the sensations, in a performance where both everyday life and the universal are reflected in this “work that is born from the skin going inwards”. Contemporary culture tinged with retrospection to show the person who could have been; the woman who in appearance no longer exists; the multifaceted, empathetic, crazy and dramatic artist, exuberant with humour. At LABoral Elena Rato and Noelia Francisco propose to demonstrate that all women fit into only two bodies that are broken down; which are material and fiction at the same time; and which mix coarseness with subtlety in a performance brimming with irony and delicacy.
