LABoral will present the catalogue of the exhibition Pasajes. Viajes por el híper-espacio which was inaugurated at Gijon’s Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial last October and showcases artworks belonging to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (T-B A21) collection, on Thursday 17 February, the day after tomorrow. The event will take place at 7 pm at Ivorypress Art + Books (Comandante Zorita 48 – 46, 28020 Madrid), within the activities arranged by ARCO and will coincide with the launch of the special edition book Los Carpinteros: Handwork - Constructing the World, edited by T-B A21.

Those participating in this event will include: Director of LABoral, Rosina Gómez-Baeza; the Art Centre’s Chief Curator, Benjamin Weil; and the two members of Los Carpinteros, Marco Castillo Valdés and Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, whose work Frío estudio del desastre (2005) [Frozen Study of a Disaster] is exhibited in Pasajes. Daniela Zyman, Chief Curator, T-B A-21 as well as the exhibition´s co-curator, alongside Benjamin Weil, and Cristina Giménez, Director of Ivorypress Art + Books Space will also be present.

The catalogue of Pasajes. Viajes por el híper-espacio throughout its near 200 pages documents the exhibition produced by LABoral and Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, which is mainly composed of large-scale installations and sculpture works. The show was conceived to stimulate visitors to take a contemplative excursion where they are transported to the centre of the artistic experience itself, through a journey which immerses them into another perceptual dimension that activates their physical, sensual and cerebral senses. With artworks by Ai Weiwei, Doug Aitken, Haluk Akakçe, Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, Maurizio Cattelan, Olafur Eliasson, Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset, Florian Hecker, Jeppe Hein, Carsten Höller, Los Carpinteros, Ernesto Neto, Carsten Nicolai, Olaf Nicolai, Paul Pfeiffer, Sergio Prego, Pipilotti Rist, Monika Sosnowska, Cerith Wyn Evans, the show stays open at LABoral until Monday 21 February.

The catalogue, edited by LABoral, was designed by Fernando Gutiérrez, and includes introductory articles by Vicente Álvarez Areces, Rosina Gómez-Baeza and Francesca von Habsburg, as well as articles by Daniela Zyman and Benjamin Weil, Peio Aguirre, Pau Waelder and Alanna Heiss. The photographs showing the artworks in the LABoral space were taken by Francesca von Habsburg, herself, Marcos Morilla, an Asturian photographer and by Rento Guntli, a Swiss photographer. Different moments captured by Enrique G. Cárdenas during the exhibition’s inauguration are also included. The publication will be distributed by Walther König, one of the world’s most prestigious editors and distributors of art publications, as well as the owner of a good number of art bookshops in Germany. The book will be sold at 35 Euros.

Ivorypress Art + Books, where the presentation will be held, brings together the world of books and art in the same space, joining a vast bookshop with various exhibition areas. Founded by Elena Ochoa Foster, the centre draws up programmes centred on contemporary art, with a special focus on photography, architecture and design. Its interior was designed by Normal Foster, and it was created out of an old printing house annexed to a garage. Opened to the public in February 2009, its 800 square-metres space includes climate-controlled galleries to museum conservation standards with full audiovisual backup and data.
