LABoral will inaugurated this Friday Universo vídeo. La Magia de las Imágenes, a selection of Works from the Lemaître Collection that rethinks the role of the image in the construction of our relationship with reality, through a reflection on the very medium itself, in other words, its logic and the technology it articulates in its social dimension. Caught between illusion and the objective and mechanical recording of space and time, these twelve video pieces construct a constellation of approaches to the central role of images in our everyday life.

Curated by Benjamin Weil, Artistic Director of the Centro Botín, with Alfredo Aracil as Assistant Curator, the exhibitionincludes Works from Pablo Accinelli, Yto Barrada, Louidgi Beltrame, Patricia Esquivias, Maïder Fortuné, Beatrice Gibson,
Emily Jacir, Adrián Melis, Zhenchen Liu, Jean-Michel Pancin, Mika Rottenberg y Moussa Sarr.

In the context of the exhibition, this Saturday, 12 April, between 11 am and 1 pm will take place at the Paraninfo de Ciudad de la Cultura a panel discussion on collecting and video with the participation of Jean-Conrad e Isabelle Lemaître, Collection Lemaître, Paris; Benjamin Weil, Artistic Director of Centro de Arte Fundación Botín, Santander; Louidgi Beltrame y Maïder Fortuné, participant artists in the exhibition; and Cristina Cámara, Audiovisual Collection from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid.

This session is open to the public and is addressed to collectors, artists, gallery owners and anyone interested.

LEMAÎTRE COLLECTION
In the 70s, Jean-Conrad Lemaître and his wife Isabelle started to collect art: Etchings, painting, sculpture and photography. From 1996 their will to collect has focused on videoart. With the acquisition of most-wanted pieces by recognised artists like Tacita Dean and Mark Wallinger, and other pieces by new artists like Keren Cytter and Landau Sigalit, the collection has shifted towards an international approach. As a result, the Lemaîtres have lent their pieces of art for several exhibitions in countries such as France, Peru or Germany. In fact, his collection is in the "Top 10" of the Larrys List, one of the collectors databases most reputable worldwide in the field of video art and new media.

The Lemaître collection has two important characteristics. On the one hand, it includes works acquired mainly over the last decade, from documentary trends to the most subjective and experimental, with a clear preference for mixing genres of any kind. On the other hand, it includes pieces from several countries, such as China, Chile, Germany, France and the U.S.A, which allows the public to get a multicultural view, closely related with contemporary video art.
