Juan Carlos Martínez

(Gijón, 1959)

With a degree in Agricultural Engineering with a major in Gardening, from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Martínez has combined his professional activity as Head of Parks and Gardens at the Gijon City Council since 1989, with the development of modern concepts of gardening as an artistic activity, and its role in the transformation of public spaces, a practice he has introduced into Asturias. His contributions in this field led to invitations to take part in many conferences and practical experiences for which he has received a large number of distinctions. In his remarkable trajectory we would single out his design of the Gijon public sculpture plan, developed from 1990 to 2000.
