In memoriam: Orson San Pedro

“I am not interested in art, but in artists” is the leitmotiv for Match Box and an idea defended by the artist Orson San Pedro, alter ego of Benjamín Rodríguez (Gijon, 1982-2010). His approach to art focussed primarily on the interrelation with artists, collectives and projects, in doing so building a body of work based on the need to generate events.

Match Box is a free encounter of art practitioners, collectives and critics engaged in the interaction, collaboration and sharing of processes. Specific proposals sometimes based on the recording, documentation or collaborations beyond the merely technical but which are mostly based on the relationship with Benjamín Rodríguez.

Match Box wishes to engage directly with both the film image and with the spectator. The 28 proposals in this interdisciplinary project arise from friction and are more interested in the collective enrichment inherent to processes than in the actual end result. Researching in new media and behaviours in art, the project is open to speculation through a number of different strategies. The unexpected is what activates the events. Art is a way of behaving, capable of instigating relational mechanisms.
