Koolhaas HouseLife
Koolhaas HouseLife is a documentary about one of the referential architectural works of contemporary architecture in recent years: the Maison à Bordeaux, designed by Rem Koolhaas/OMA in 1998. In contrast with most of the films on architecture, this documentary is less focused on explaining the building, its structure and virtuosity, and more concerned with giving the viewer access to the invisible bubble of this icon of architecture’s intimate and daily life. Like any other home, the Maison à Bordeaux is a plural place including the typical chaos, maintenance and wear and tear and subjected to continuous changes.

The documentary by Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine is a portrayal of reality and the changing vitality of one of those so-called eternal monuments. The thread running through the documentary is the daily stories of Guadalupe Acedo (housekeeper) and the maintenance personnel of the building. An unusual and unpredictable outlook of the building’s spaces and structures is generated through the interaction with Guadalupe.
